Well in truth...Adolph Hitler and the NAZI Party (German Workers Socialist Party) were to be the "catalysts" that would ultimately lead to World War Two. But Hitler ultimately banked on the grievances of the German people over the Treaty of Versailles! The Treaty of Versailles was negotiated at the end of the First World War upon the defeat of Germany! It imposed many punitive measures against Germany by restricting their military size, handing some land over to France, and monetary penalties and resource penalties for reparations of the war! This was destructive to Germanys' economic welfare! Has a result they encountered high unemployment, and a huge debtload. This ultimately left the German population very bitter and spiteful! Hitler himself was a Corporal in the German Army in the First World War,and was bitterly angry with the outcome of it. During the 1920's and 1930's he had rose to the ranks of power, and eventually became the Chancellor of Germany. He wrote a book called "Mein Kampf" which in English is "My Struggles",and this book helped to popularize himself to the German people-and many Germans in that day...could easily relate to his explainations of why Germany was suffering and what needed to be done to fix it! Mein Kampf literally became the Constitution of the (NAZI)German Workers Socialist Party. And ultimately helped Adolph Hitler rise up to seize control of Germany, and declare himself as Fuhrer or Leader of the German people! One of his first acts was to defy the conditions of the Treaty of Versailles, and rebuild the German Military and would also build the Airforce back up as well! Not having an Airforce...was one of the treaty measures imposed on Germany in the Treaty of Versailles! Hitler then created a very massive Industrial Revolution, that would offer to the people-a good paying job and opportunities that were just a short time earlier...out of reach! This same revolution also brought about the birth of a vehicle we know today as the Volkswagen Beetle. Volkswagen literally means "the peoples car",and they are still around to this very day! He then mobilised the Army, and proceeded to take back the disputed territories. Austria,Czechoslovakia, and parts of Poland! This of course put the rest of Europe at unease, and many of the surrounding nations began to wonder if he'd stop! With every advance he made,he overwhelmingly got the loyal support of the German public! But then he got into an arrangement with Joseph Stalin to ultimately partition Poland and other territories in an exchange for peace with the Soviets, and then started to pursue the Soviets and take the rest of Poland! As a result British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain lost his office, and Winston Churchill became the new Prime Minister-and ultimately he would declare War on Germany...over the invasion of Poland! This would launch the World in to War in 1939,and alliances would be formed. Primarily Germany,Italy and Japan would form the 'Axis Powers' and eventually the Soviets would flip over favorably to the British later on-to form the 'Allied Powers' in the dispute! The U.S. would later join in 1940 with the attack on Pearl Harbour by the Japanese. The Japanese had a long standing dispute with Russia...over the resources of Manchuria! And this ultimately was a revived grievance that stemmed from the Russo-Japanese War at the earlier turn of the century! The U.S. was viewed probably by Japan...as the only country powerful enough to throw a curve into their militaristic ambitions! So without fanfare and without any warning-Japan struck Pearl Harbour,Hawaii, and inflicted considerable damage to the U.S. Navy ships that were parked there! The U.S. is now in the War,and it immediately aligns itself with Britain and Russia! So there you have it in short order...World War Two!!! Hope this explains some of the question for you. theerrander.

Both really, the Nazi Party was Germany's power! The reason Britain went to war with Germany was because Adolf Hitler, the Chancellor of Germany at the time, invaded Poland against Britain's wishes. He had already invaded his neighbour which was Austria, so Britain to stop his expansion gave him a ultimatum which he ignored and promptly crossed the border into Poland. The British had a defence pact with Poland at the time, so they had to declare war on Germany to honour their treaty with Poland. Thus starting World war 2! Have a good day!

Yes.

From my source:

"On September 1, 1939, Germany, led by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, invaded Poland according to a secret agreement with the Soviet Union.

On September 3 at 11:15 GMT, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, followed six hours later by France, responded by declaring war on Germany, initiating a widespread naval war. South Africa (September 6) and Canada (September 10) followed suit.

The Soviet Union joined the invasion of Poland on September 17."

Hope this helps!

The Versailles Treaty from World War I had a lot to do with it - the terms proved immensely unsatisfactory for the Germans, because they were forced to pay war indemnities, reduce their armies, and all sorts of things as penance for their part in WWI. Here's the Columbia Encyclopedia article (NOT Wikipedia!) on WWII, with a section called Causes and Outbreak. http://www.bartleby.com/65/ww/WW2.html

Excerpt: "This second global conflict resulted from the rise of totalitarian, militaristic regimes in Germany, Italy, and Japan, a phenomenon stemming in part from the Great Depression that swept over the world in the early 1930s and from the conditions created by the peace settlements (1919–20) following World War I."
