It was customised for a company and doesn't say which company produced it but I am sure it was made in Asia somewhere. A friend foolishly formatted the thing and now the programs on it are all gone. What do I do? The gift was for my dad and I borrowed it?

well first off he put a virus on it. He was using it as a pen drive. Then he tried to get the virus off by hooking it to his pc to scan. It wouldn't scan and he decided to do a quick format to remove the music files and reinstall them but then it cleaned the whole disc. thanks for the help man

Try putting windows media or real player on it hooked up the same way the friend was able to format the thing.

Install the operating system on it if you have to.
Also make sure you are actually seeing that the MP4 player files were really deleted and just not that a directory with nothing in it was opened. I just think it is weird that it would be that easy to format the drive.
