Can the hormones in your birthcontrol throw off your pregnancy test. I have a friend that thinks she is pregnant but the test results keep coming back negative but she has a lot of the symptoms of pregnancy. Anyone have any suggestions.

If she was pregnant it would show in a test. She is probably stressing herself out and any little thing she feels she interprets as a symptom. If she wants to be sure, tell her to go to the doctor and get a blood test.

What symptoms? Other than having the baby, the symptoms of pregnancy can be experienced in other conditions.

If she is late having a period, then she may need to see a doctor to change her pill strength. Or she could have some other medical condition which may be inducing amenorrhoea.

If she is putting on weight - this is hardly a rare condition in women (or men).

If she is feeling nauseous - food poisoning, or inner ear infection (labyrinthitis).

I have been doing pregnancy tests for about 20 years now, and can tell you that I have never seen a false negative, that is, a negative test when the woman was pregnant. Other than those that came in and had the test just after having sex (a bit ambitious, but it happens).
The test used these days is based on the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin, and is produced just after implantation occurs, and can be detected at an acceptable level at about 4-5 days after conception. Possibly even before, but we have to set a base line level for a positive result.

If your friend is giving a negative result then there are a few possibilities.
-She is less than 5 days pregnant.
- She is not doing the test properly.
-She is not pregnant, and something else is causing the symptoms.
-She is not pregnant but wants to be pregnant, and hopes that by acting pregnant, she will put herself in the right frame of mind to become pregnant.

No, the hormones in birth control pills are estrogen and progesterone. Home pregnancy tests check for hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) in the system. hCG is only produced when a woman is pregnant...bcp's cannot artifically produce it. Is she late for her period? She could be testing too early...generally you'll want to test 5-7 days after a missed period using your first morning urine (when concentrations of hCG are at their highest.) A lot of the symptoms of pregnancy can be due to stress and/or PMS. But to answer your question...birth control pills do not affect a pregnancy test in any way.

A blood test is the only 100% positive test. If your friend thinks she's pregnant, then she should stop taking birth control pills. Also, the test should be taken in the morning when the hormone levels are at their highest.

It is possible that the birth control is affecting her pregnancy test, or it could be that her hormones are not showing for the pregnancy test... he best bet would be to go see a doctor to be sure!!!

I don't think so, because birth control helps to save you not to conceived but the moment an egg has been fertilized, it will be shown in the test. She should better see her doctor to make a check-up on her.
