I'm an experienced pilot. I've made plenty of calls on my cell from the air. Hey though, that is my Pilot in Command authority. Up there in the left seat I can do pretty much anything I want if I need to. The whole cell phone in flight restriction is as follows. A poorly made cell isn't properly shielded and than cause interference with flight instruments. Do they work? Yeah sure I've placed many calls, can they mess up readings on instruments, you betcha. I had my cell twirl a compass with EMP interference like it was a carnival ride, got dizzy looking at it. As a pilot though I was prepared and the slaved heading indicator was what I was following. Ended my call, the compass settled and all was well. A bystander questioning the possibility of 9/11 being a terrorist act is like me questioning the posibility of open heart surgery. Sounds complex as can be to my brain that isn't well versed in biology, nearly impossible really, but I'm pretty sure they can do it.

As a matter of fact yes I was. I was on a flight from Houston, Texas to Louisville, Ky 2 weeks before Sept. 11. I called my wife and she made a few calls to me. That was where I got the best reception!

Like most of us, I imagine, I've never dared try to switch on my mobile on an aeroplane. I'm too scared that it might really interfere with the flight mechanism. But those poor devils didn't really have much to lose, did they?!!
