It has been raining the last few days, I also thought about trying to pull them out by the roots with the truck, but they are all about three feet from the house. How deep will the roots be, would that be dangerous?

Our bush was so big my husband actuall did have to use his truck to pull it out, and yes it was by the house!

you cut down a large rhodendron depending on the height of this plant do you know how much this plant was worth at just a plain flea market depending on the color a regular red 3 to 4 feet tall is over $100.00 all of the other colors cost more than that i sure hope you know what you was doing.i have seen them in tree form go for $500.00 in a nurseryand thats for a 3ft tree pink.i work in a nursery these are not cheap plants

Go to your local nursery and get some stump killer or woody stem killer. Usually the same thing. Make a fresh cut and spray it on. Does the trick.
