If the Bush/Cheney administration did order air-strikes on Iran, it would be for one reason...

...to take out their nuclear processing plants.

...Not to take down their leadership, Government, or infrastructure.

Why not?

1.) Iran is SEVERAL times the size of Iraq, and far more stable.

2.) Remember how long it took just to get Saddam? How about "what's his face?" The guy behind 9-11? Bin Ladin? We still haven't gotten him, and he's on dialysis! Now take into account that Iran is not a dictatorship like iraq was, but a Theocracy run by Ministers, taking down the Government would be like taking down all the members of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the White house, not to mention the cabinet.

3.) The entire world knows that we don't have the man-power to invade even a small country right now. And Iran is not a small country. It's several times larger than Iraq and much more stable.

4.) The reason Iran's President took those British soldiers hostage is because he knows we want to take out his nuclear facilities. He knows that air-strikes and reliable intelligence is all we need to do it. So what does he do to try and prevent it? Out of desperation, he takes some Western Soldiers hostages. Now if we bomb their nuclear facilities, he can kill the hostages in retaliation.

5.) There's no question the Iranian President is a reckless, religious zealot. But in the eyes of the international community, that's exactly what Bush is. A reckless, religous zealot. Not only would Bush fail to gain the support of any other country aside from Britian and Isreal. Attacking Iran may even provoke Russia to declare war on the U.S. (as President Putin has already threatened).

6.) Unless the American people are willing to accept a draft, we aren't going to have the man-power or the will to go to war with a much more formitable enemy like Iran.

7.) With only 29 percent approval rating, and member of his own party turning against him (the Gonzalas thing isn't helping either), Bush would be heading towards impeachment.

8.) The Republican party wants to survive the elections in 2008. If Bush/Cheney go to war with Iran, the Republicans will not only lose the next presidency, they'll lose what seat they have in the House and Senate. At least give the Democrats a devistating two-thirds majority. The Republicans would HAVE to sacrifice Bush in order to survive as a party. They would impeach him, and remove him from office.

I pray that never happens. Our military is pretty taxed as it is with multiple deployments, aging equipment, congress & the Commander-in-Chief fighting about the money and a timeline. Add into the fray that alot of military members are not only in the AOR of Iraq and Afghanistan (the current forgotten war" but also in Africa, doing homeland security jobs, guard members on the Mexico/US border, and then add into the fact that we've been at war now for over 5 years. Our great military machine has had to change war tactics and strategy to meet the new shadow enemy (the guys who don't wear a uniform of any particular country, but just fight for what they believe is right). No matter which stance of the war you rely on, the truth is that we'd much rather bleed and die in their backyards rather than be dying in in our own.while defending our families and country Can imagine what life would be like if a handful of random sucide bombers ran through some of our major cities? Add onto it snipers, and IEDs? We experience a small piep bomb or a cherry bomb and local officals freak out. Let alone the general public (you, me, everyone whose answering questions, the suburbs you may live in) and what their reaction would be. Washington DC was shut down while they had the Anthrax and Sniper issues. Add into that stuff from what we only see on the news and in movies (like November 1998's movie The Seige). That's the reality of forcing war onto a formiable opponent. Add into this stew the relations of Iran's ally's, Hezbollah, Syria, Russia (maybe), and China (maybe), and many smaller factions. Even publicly Saudia Arabia has intense views on this issue. So lets pray that the Britons are set free and Iran somehow backs down from it's desire to be strong and save face. Otherwise the world we know will radically shift. Now before folks claim I support one polictical party opinion or another. I don't. I am just speaking from simple personal opnion and experience. I fight for our country so that the bad guys won't fight us in ours. Will that ever happen? I don't know. But do you really want to take that chance? I don't.

WAR shld be PREVENTED not ENCOURAGED....

Stop making fun out of it and be serious, DONT ENCOURAGE WAR....People's lives are involved here....

Think b4 ACT

There is no poem that will stop this war

This is not the one. There is none. There is
nothing to be done. We are not anything but
the Hun the fierce images in old textbooks
the Mongol horsemen rape and pillage
villages burning and the laughter of old men.
The radio and television prepare us
for the Super Bowl. But already in Ohio
we are number one. All of us better
than all of the rest of the world. Admit it

it was the perfect game. Allah praise Ohio State.
And admit this all who listen to NPR
the president is smarter than you.
He is riding the armored car of history while you
look for a refuge some safe place for your children.
But there is no place to hide. We are the virus.
Everything that cannot be bought and sold
for a profit falls before us. He knows this
even if you believe he is a fool. He lives and breathes
Karl Marx while you hold up a sign that says
Peace is Patriotic. The laughter of old men.

There is no image to stop the war. No child
with burned blacked skin like barbecued chicken.
The children waste away from bad plumbing and no
medicine. We pass along to each other the chips
and organic carrots. Bottled water.

There is no poem as good as government ensured
bonds. We are wounded with so little interest. There
is no poem that will pay us ten percent and stop
this war. The Germans marched prematurely
through history never understanding the power
of the dollar never having heard of Lexus and SUV
never knowing anything about baseball never
knowing that the Yankees only lose enough
to make the game seem fair. Vietnam is empty
in the memory. Cambodia fills with Wal-Mart
and Burger King. Bombs from 20,000 feet.

The first dictate of battle is to make sure
the enemy has no weapons to harm you.
Disable their best batter. Tonya Harding their best runner.
Then attack and wait for the parade. But dont wait
for the poem that will stop this war. There is none.
The history of the empire has just begun.

Honestly, I don't think it will happen and if Bush is truly that stupid, he needs to be impeached.

When the Iranians took American hostages for over 400 days, did we bomb? Nope...Reagan negotiated a quiet settlement, arms for hostages. Of course, it didn't STAY quiet. Reagan also played politics by ensuring the hostages STAYED hostage until after he was sworn in...which shows the Iranians can play politics too.

Bombing Iran due to their nuclear program is impossible due to the overwhelming possible locations for them to hide it.

Bombing for "regime change" purposes is counterproductive as Vietnam and Iraq have clearly proven. Embargos have never worked either as they only hurt the people they are trying to "liberate" instead of the regime they are trying to change.

It just shows that diplomacy is always the best option and war should be the last possible choice after all else has failed.

Bush has taken a hard line and has said there will be no deals or concessions. His neocon cheerleaders have been egging him on to bomb Iran for some time. I don't think it will be long until this escalates unless Britain shows some leadership and independence.

Once again we can't turn the other way. We all have decided to live in a peaceful, loving world. War sometimes preserves peace and love. The Soldiers on both sides in War are well aware of this and God bless them for giving up there lives... Countries always will fight, and if its time for U.S. and Iran to go then this might be the best time....You mess with the bull, you get the horns...

being waiting to achieve Israel became by no potential the issue. Political restraint and ethnic intollerance is the issue. the actual question probable might want to be, "Now that they have got a more suitable effective lengthy decision missile, how lengthy earlier Israel reacts to the conceivable danger of Nuclear attack ... and would Iran be prepared to chance global warfare?" or, "Now that they have got reported missile, how lengthy earlier Iran admits nuclear armament of reported missile and what's going to Israel's reaction be?" There are a million different questions and the region is a pandoras field.
