Yes, you can, but favorites are called bookmarks on firefox, so far as I know. Click View, click toolbars, click customize, then click on the history icon and drag it next to your address bar until a solid vertical black bar appears and then let go. Do the same for the bookmarks icon. If you want the bookmarks toolbar, click view, click toolbars, and then click bookmarks toolbar.

You can add bookmarks to the toolbar by adding them to the "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" in the Organize Bookmarks menu. You can put subfolder in here if you wish.

I'm not aware of any way to make the history show up directly.

If you right click on a blank part of the toolbar (e.g. between the address bar and the search box) you can pick Customize and add icons for Bookmarks and History to the toolbar. These will then cause them to open in a sidebar on demand.

Favourites = Bookmarks in Firefox

History = History in Firefox

Both appear on the Menu Bar by default. If yours are missing, right-click 1" to the right of the Help Tab and see if they have a check mark beside them.

Right-click on the toolbar and select 'Bookmarks Toolbar'. for History, right-click, select Customize, drag the 'History' icon and drop it at the toolbar.

You have to save your bookmarks in 'Bookmarks Toolbar Folder'.

I don't think you can.

Edit: Firefox is MUCH safer than IE ever has been or ever will be.
