I like to sing, at competions and shows alot, but my nerves get the best of me and I am very reserved and stiff onstage. Because I am like this, I have never done an upbeat song onstage. I really want to do a fast song though and get the crowd going but I am too shy.

Yes some of us do have these kind of problems, but you know if there is a will there is a way.

What I recommend to people is Image training and mirror training.

In short (if you need detail answer write me)
First of all you should know Fear is the worst enemy. You got fear like other people. I give you my example I had participated in Speech contest and always stuck during speech, words did not come out of mouth, did not see audience face, every thing had gotten frozen. Even my legs.
Can you imagine this situation.?
And one day I got First prize a big trophy since then started learning, practicing and gaining experience. Also giving advise to people who need help(for FREE).

Stand in front of a mirror and practice loudly. Do not shy pretend what you want to do.
Then, before going to bed, close your eyes and think you are singing a song and you are hearing clapping and cheering. People liked your song you are so happy, you must feel it, Remember feel the end, feel the good result and you will be master of your problem.

Then you start doing in front of family members, close friends in one month you will be master. If you follow it.

Wish you success.

Well I used to want to perform in High school and I just figured out that if i could be just brave enough to stand on stage was good enough for me, but it sure felt like I was standing on a highwire without a net..... So, I have this advice for you..Perform as often as possible..do it infront of friends they are the worse cause they know you, and they are honest.... you may not like what they say, but "IF" they are "GOOD" friends they will help you out.. ....and do it infront of famly or family gatherings ...do it at church .. stand infront of the mirror that is the best cause you can see what you look like while doing it..and you can say ok or not to what you have planned to do..
So, work on your make up , your different styles and image and go from there..cause if you look good and you feel good then everything else will fall into place.. Believe in God ...Believe in your family and friends ...Have Fun..Smile ..Think Positive...show those Pearly whites ...and be ready to take on whatever life has to Offer..GOOD LUCK!!!

Just remember you only live once, and for a short time. What do you really want to do with the time you have on the earth? Waste it shaking like a leaf behind a curtain, or strutting your stuff up on the stage in front of your fans?

Just go for it! Try and forget that the audience are there. Get into the character you are trying to portray and let yourself go!
