I do that sometimes.... especially, when I'm not sure my answer
contains the information the person is looking for. You know -
you just kinda "take a chance" and then "hope it helps".
After all, Isn't that what this is all about? By the way, I really
don't understand all the fuss about POINTS........ Who cares!

Because they hope they have given you some help. Obviously, these are the people who answer that are really trying to be helpful, not just to get 2 points.

Because they hope it will help the person who is asking the question. They're being considerate and not arrogantly assuming that their answer will be the best one, so they hope they're giving you good information.

I hope this helps!

Just look at the profiles and answers of those who don't believe people really want to help others. It is obvious that they aren't helpful in the least, so of coarse they would never say that they hope they have helped someone.

Simply, b'coz u need not ask a question if u don't need help. Asking a question is indirectly asking for help as you are confused regarding the subject & perspective of the topic. By answering a ques. one is helping you to understand the concept u don't understand & hence have put forth the ques. Therefore, his intention is to help you. And, feeling that he has succeeded in his mission of helping you, he says the above mentioned words in the question.

I hope my ans. helps ya in solving your problem regarding you ques.
I also hope that you like my ans. the most & rate it as the best one.
So long.

mmm. it is just human nature to think that they know better... mostly when they know nothing... mmm. they think they can help with everything... every1 thinks they can change the world on their lunch break..... ppl ask questions.... but usually wait for no response... they ask 2 prove 2 others that they know.... so it's the same thing here.... they dont really hope it helps... but they just wanna show u that they know... - i guess -

probably because at some level they want to seem like they care a lot more than they actually do. In reality they really just want their answer to stand out, so they can get their extra points.
