I know i always think of that i don't have a spider phobia but it is a scary thought if that were to happen for real. would it be possible for it to lay it's eggs in there as well? thats why i always check underneath my pillows and blanket beforehand lol. well not all the time it can be habit forming.

I would try not to worry about it so much. :)

Here's the rundown:

Animals are actually less likely to crawl into ears if they produce appropriate amounts of wax. Ear wax, or cerumen is what covers the inside of your ear for protection. This chemical produces an odor that is a repellent to a few bugs. It protects from dirt and dust.

When you have excess ear wax, you'll notice how sometimes the cerumen will feel as if it's coming out of your ear. Believe it or not - this is how the ear routinely cleans out anything that may* have been inside.

Your nose!

Mucus works in a similar fashion. Yes, it's possible for a bug to fly in there by mistake without your knowledge.

However keep in mind that mucus has the same job as ear wax. So basically mucus traps any of the extra debris that comes into your nose by coating it with the stuff (it's also mostly salt), and turning into that flaky dry stuff.

In any case, rest a little bit easier at night knowing some of this stuff.

If it makes you feel better - The ranch I worked at had one of those old school outhouses that we had* to use. I somehow built up this insane fear that I would be going to the restroom in the outhouse and end up with a rattlesnake/spider bite right on my bottom!

Of course this didn't happen and the phobia died down after a while.

~Hope this helps!

Bugs In Nose And Ears

I have heard of roaches crawling into people's ears at nite. It's kind of a scary thought, but I know that I've seen something on TV a long time ago that talked about this happening to some kids that lived in the projects.

i actually have woken up with a bug in my nose. Sometimes in the summer we get these little black bugs that have a hard shell. For some reason they dont scare me, even though I hate bugs and spiders. I woke up one morning and felt something in my nose. I was half asleep so I just picked it out (oh like you all never pick your nose) and sure enough it was one of those stupid little bugs. Had I been more awake I probably would've freaked out, just because it was in my nose, but I was tired and groggy, so i just rolled over, dropped him on the floor and went back to sleep. ...Now if I ever woke up with a spider, anywhere near my face.....that'd be a different story. ...Im scared to death of spiders

I think you have a slightly overactive primal instinct... it is normal to be wary of bugs and so on... but being really afraid it will crawl up your nose or ears is not nessesary. I recently watched mythbusters do a show on if frogspawn could hatch inside human body. it seems no bugs whatsoever can really use us very well. the frogspawn couldnt anyway. too much acid and the selinity wasnt good eiter.... anyway, lots of bugs might come in and look if you were dead, but the airflow in your nose and warmth of your ears and rest of body, will keep bugs from entering. you might strike back you see... it really is a very very small change they might even dicide to walk up your nose and then they would have to stand a hurricane... (being your breath) your ear is a closed thing and they might be able to walk in it for a few millimeters, but then there's a dead end... so even then there is nothing usefull for insects to find.. I used to be scared too.. until I realized I would sneeze with a 120 kph hahahahahaha!!! gone bug.... and my ears? in the night I wear earplugs against sound...maybe they work against your fear of earbugs eh? took me a week to get used to them... but now nothing can get in.. no annoying sounds, nog bugs... Sleep tight and sweet dreams... :)

Yeah I hate bugs and spiders to begin with! I don't check under my pillows though, I'm hoping the cat will get them before they get me....

The average human swallows 8 spiders in his/her life whilst asleep! Creepy!

The average is actually five spiders that you'll eat in your lifetime, no matter what you do. And not keeping your ears clean will just lead to other problems.

I've always heard the average person swallows at least 3 bugs while s/he sleeps. So you can check all you like, you can't escape them...
