Hi RAK, yes, according to the doctors and manufacturers of anti-depressants and sleeping pills, both can decrease your sex drive. However, I take both of them and seem to be one of the lucky ones where that hasn't happened. I am also post menopausal and that definitely can do it. But I believe that you have to just find your balance yourself. As with anything else in life, if you allow yourself to have an illness or it's figthting medications take over your life, then surely you are going to encounter more problems. Fight it, I do on a daily basis and trust me, it really helps. It's never good to "roll over and play dead" so to speak. I am not trying to be insensitive only trying to help you overcome some of your concerns. If you feel that your sex drive deminishes, tell your partner and together you can up with more or new stimulating ways to get back that wonderful feeling. Keep some KY or the like handy (that will help with the vaginal dryness) and in some cases, hightens the drive ones the foreplay begins. Just don't give up and please stay on your meds, especially the anti-depressants. They were given to you for a reason. On the Vitamins or mineral supplements, I have never heard of reduced sex drive as a side effect. It can, however, increase your appetite in general. You might find yourself eating more and getting the "munchies". That is something I always experience when I take Vitamins and many times had to reduce my intake. In that case, I tried to get the vitamins on a natural way. By eating lots of fruits and veggies. It's all up to you and how you handle it. Good luck and don't let statistics get you down. They are just numbers on paper :) MsB

I can't answer on the vitamin or mineral tablets, or the sleeping pills causing reduced sex drive but when it comes to antidepressants I can tell you that from having talked to others who have done antidepressants even for controlling chronic pain (the dosage is lower for chronic pain than it is for depression) there has been reduced sex drive for some of them.

regarding antidepressants the answer is yes, prozac and other generic ssri's do have side effects of reducing the sex drive significantly in some people and can be very depressing for the individual. i am not sure about the moa's which are a more older form of anti depressant and atleast in my country presribed much less frequently than ssri's. it is important to read the list of side affects for antidepressants and not to pay too much heed to the manufactuers % statements, by this i mean if they say only 10% feel the affects of reduced sex drive. take everything with a grain of salt. but if you need to take medication then depending on your condition and its severity, you can try saint johns wort, its homeopathic and may be a good first step.

also as a side not if your sex drive is affected make sure your not too stressed, eating well etc to make sure that its not side effects of a bad lifestyle.

yes, anti-depressants such as effexor xr. venlafaxime have an effect on the "libido" and can decrease sex drive;. The question is to trade a little of your sex drive for a lot of anxiety.

Definately. Most, if not all, anti depressants have disasterous results on libido and/or performance. In men it will take away either the sexual urge and/or the ability to orgasm. In women it usually destroys the urge.
