It's a matter of opinion sista.
If you're looking at it from a statistical perspective...football is the most popular sport in the world. More popular than b-ball, tennis, and that horrible american football.
Basketball is the fastest growing sport (from a popularity perspective). You can see that trend in Brazil, which is a football king. However many Brazilian youths are loving b-ball.
So which is BETTER? That's a tough one. Both sports have crappy refs, both are nonstop and fast-moving, one is high scoring the other is more dramatic scoring.
Personal preference.

Basketball. Soccer is boring. They score like one or two times and that's it. The rest of the time they just kick the ball back and forth trying to score. While in basketball, you have constant action, and individual and beautiful moves to score.

there's really no comparison... while soccer is more global and basketball is predominantly north american, it's really up to the individual...
basketball is trying to break into european countries while football is setting its sights at the lucrative US market...
both sports are also eying a slice of the pie in the HUGE asian market...
i grew up playing basketball... but have since following soccer ardently... i follow both sports closely in fact... so it's really up to you...
