Some of you who are jumping on me for asking htis obviously cant read right, i said i disagree with abortion but i can understand why some women would choose this, i did not refer to women who have deformed babies, obviously each case is different, what i am saying is that in this day and age, how can we still allow abortion to take place in a healthy pregnancy at 24 weeks!!!!!There is no excuse for that, at that stage its not about what the mother wants, its about a baby, adoption agencies are crying out for babies, and i have had experience in this matter, from the end of fostering unwanted children and from the end of making a choice on abortion! My question was, abortion up to 24 weeks, agree or disagree, thats what this place is all about opinions isnt it!

i agree with you if you want to abort then do it at the beginning but if the doctor says that there is something seriously wrong the i say it's okay but if it's healthy them it's wrong do people know that the baby can live out side the womb think all of you would be interest in this site this woman give a lot of info on it and she makes since and i would never do that.and just so you know she's not ranting she's asking your opinions, so quit preaching too her and answer the question if you don't want to answer it right then don't answer it at all

I dont know where you are or the doctors performing these 24 week abortions. I live in australia and most of the doctors in my town refuse to do abortions but will recommend you to a doctor who will and all of the doctors who will, they only do them up to 12 weeks. Any termination between 12 and 20 weeks is only performed if there is a serious problem with mother or baby and most wont perform them at all after 20 weeks. I agree with these guidelines and yes i have had 2 terminations. The first was when i was 15 years old and very scared and the second was at the age of 21 when i knew i couldnt be the best parent i could and in order to surrender my baby i would have to leave town and go to my capital city as the adoption process in western australia is pretty primitive. I also really couldnt afford to leave my job (i couldnt take the time off or i would have been sacked). I am currently pregnant with my third child and have considered an abortion for this pregnancy but decided i could have another child easily and comfortably. But if i had of thought it would affect my current children and affect them adversly in the long run eg less time with me as they are both under 5, i would have terminated. Mind you i am only 10 weeks pregnant and have already made the decision to keep this child.

it is VERY rare that a healthy baby would be terminated that late.
like others have mentioned, there would be medical circumstances.
example: turner syndrome. this cannot be detected until 12-16 weeks, then lots of many different tests must be performed to confirm the severity.
turner syndrome affects female foetuses. occasionally it is minor, and the baby will have some physical and mental disablities but be able to function and go to a special needs school etc, but probably need care throughout her life.
but often the disabilities are so numerous and devastating that the baby will be highly likely to die in the womb, but too large to miscarry on its own, or be stillborn.
this is one case in many where the parents are recommended by doctors to terminate, rather than wait for the baby to die in the womb, causing infections etc. sometimes, due to the testing precedures, this will be after 16 weeks.
this is highly distressing and traumatic for the parents, who must lose the child they were looking forward to brining into the world.
so - please dont judge everyone.
the percentage of women who "casually" have abortions is actually very low.
some are raped and cant admit and then get a late one rather than be reminded of their rapist by looking into his eyes of a baby every day.
others are scared teenagers who are too young to give birth as it will ravage their body and perhaps not be able to then have babies when older and married etc.

it is not right that it is 24 weeks. i'd say18/20 at absolute max but there could be certain circumstances such as turner syndrome, where that may not be possible.

hope that gives you greater insight and empathy for the women/girls in certain situations

like many said..
dont judge a man til walked a mile in his shoes

but its your opinion... just make sure its well researched opinion based on facts not hysteria

i am 25 weeks and i started feelig the baby move at 19 weeks so hell no...my baby is 1.5 pounds and i could give birth to it right now and it could possibly survive. my sister inlaw gave birth to her first child at 5 months because of complications and her son jaden is now 6 and perfectly healthy. i can't fathom someone aborting a baby that looks like a human bieng,is kicking, and has a heart beat. i personally think if your pregnant you should only have an abortion up to 8 weeks. if it's past that then be a woman and give birth to it and give it up for adoption.

i agree up to a certain point but not 24 weeks i tink it should be reduced as baby s can survive at that point, i think it should only be done in extreme circumstances as well however i do also believe that some types of people should be automatically either snipped or have there tubes tied cos a lot of people dont deserve to be parents and can not even handle the general day to day things with children

I work in a maternity hospital, with a neonatal intensive care nursery. I have personally collected blood from a baby born at 24 weeks, who survived and went home with his parents. He is a bit delayed developmentally, but his parents loved him as much as if he were born full term and healthy.
My point is - if a 24 week baby can survive with care, how can there be justification for killing it?
Just give birth to him/her, and go home. There is some warped thought that the mother should feel more guilty about giving up her child than killing a viable baby.

I personally would never have an abortion but it's the choice of the mother at the end of the day

i understand your question fully. and i completely disagree with abortion at 24 weeks. it is immoral. just because a child is unborn it doesn't mean they are not fully formed, after all, babies have been born earlier than this and have SURVIVED. unborn children should still have the right to be protected from harm. (just because abortion is done in a controlled place, it doesn't make it right!) and all babies have the right to be born and if selfish mothers don't want to bring the child up themselves then they should at least consider letting the child be brought up by happy and loving adoptive parents. instead of taking the cowards way out and just getting rid. abortion at 24 weeks is just WRONG WRONG WRONG.!!!
