Back when segregation started, White people then saw others who were darker than them and obviously a different ethnicity than them inferior and came up with the name colored. For some odd reason today, some people use the term as they say, not to be racist but for the correct term for African Americans. I mean, just say we're Black, it doesn't bother me. Colored? Yeah, EVERYONE is colored, good point!

I did not know that term was still used by anyone with any brains. Several years ago, my elderly mother had friends from out of state visit. I was helping my mother by cooking them dinner and serving it for her. THEN one of the visitors asked me: Patti, what ever happened to that colored girl you were friends with. I was so shocked, I was almost speechless. My mother stepped in quickly and told her friend that my friend had died in an accident.
Both my mother and I laughed so much about this later, because we knew that my friend would have laughing along with us.
This term should not be used and that was the only time someone had said that in my presence.

Because white people made it up, and we kinda like it. It's about the only one the stupid political correctors haven't screwed with yet. See If a white says "Well some colored guy walked in here today." His friends still know what he means, and no one gets offended in the process. Where as if he says "Yeah some _______ <(place your racial slur here) walked in here this morning." His buddies still get the picture, but it leaves the "Oh you're a racist pig" door open. The white guy don't need that ****, so he just says "colored".

I think that people who say colored are afraid to say black person. Or African American. Or just don't know what to say at all. because being black has gotten such a bad rap. And here in the United states we have gone from coloreds to black people to African American. My grandmother is offended by the term African America because she like "I never been to Africa before." ALL I KNOW IS ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN ******.
I mean say it to yourself:
That black girl
That colored girl
that African American girl.......
I don't know what white American is comfortable calling us anymore.

yes it means people who, are not white. For instance in South Africa, they had Whites, Coloreds and Blacks. Coloreds could be either of a different race such as Indians and Arabs, or people mixed with White and Black.

What color are people?......
Let's see... you used the term "white".... What is commonly called the "white" people are not white people at all.... I never seen one.... They have a hue about them... and it certainly isn't white.........
Neither are black people black....... I have never seen one... but I have seen some who are very dark brown and so dark, that the tone of complexion is like unto burnt brass......
But, I've never seen a black man... Nor a red man....
But, I admit, I've seen a yellow one.... he had jaundice.....
I've seen a purple man and a black-and-blue man..... he was beaten..... not all over as some have it... but in spots.....

It's not. They aren't colored. They are just people. Whites(dumasses) are the only ones who call them colored.

your refering to a term used more in the past.....you can't just steal **** from the past and ask why we use it still today........it's in our history.....words were used differently in the past they were more proper and used in different contextes............so just keep on thinking of a good question.....that's like asking why we drive a damn car.......cuz it's easy and that's because that's what we do.....as humans make life easier..................at least most of us try so while your wasting time to write down this question why not do something productive...............
