Another, as I was raising my daughter, I spent a lot of time trying to determine what I wanted to teach her. I chose a rather unique approach and instead of teaching her to blindly obey my rules I attempted to teach her that the world is a giant puzzle and that she is simply one piece of that puzzle and it isn't all about her. Every opportunity I had to help her examine a situation and where she could see how her actions had caused a chain of events was utilized. She learned empathy and compassion for others. And she learned it at an early age. I don't think many parents are thinking about this problem. If they would, the problem could be solved just by teaching our children to look at a bigger picture.
