If it comes from a friend or someone I care about, I feel betrayed.

It depends on the "lie". There are the so-called "sweet little lies" , which in fact are positive and help maintain an equilibrium amongst friends and family.

Personally I don't want to know "the whole truth and everything, but the truth"...all of the time. It's counter-productive. I think my "social life" would collapse under such relentless honesty.

For example, a Friend of mine has a complex about a certain physical trait. He's asked me my opinion on several occasions. I maintain my "sweet little lie" to avoid hurting his feelings. I imagine many people do the same for me.

On the other hand there are BIG lies. Commonly referred to as deception. It's natural that these type of lies would disturb me, to say the least.

Betrayed and bewildered. Especially if it is a loved one.

Hey Jovovo Mojojo, I read your response and I disagree with your post about small lies. My mom always told me that if I lied about the small stuff, how can she trust me when she asks about the big stuff? That is so true. If you lie about the simple things, then you'll lie about the big things too. I think trust diminishes either way. Maybe not on the same scale, but it diminishes none the less.

up set at first but i realize it must be for a reason and the reason is one to work out
it could be they are hiding something they are ashamed of or are hiding something for safety
or to not hurt your feelings

it i more anger i feel at first but once i work out why they lie it is trust
it takes a smart person to be able to lie
ok i only said that as i lied for 26 years and not the truth is out there now so why pretend /lie any more

Depends who it is and what the lie is about. If it's someone close to me and the lie to my standards should not have been a lie....I would feel betrayed, disappointed, sad, and maybe even mad.

It depends on the magnitude of the lie. If that person is really ripping me off and deceiving me then I get angry. If it is just because they can't deal with something then I don't get angry; perhaps I feel pity for them.

Betrayed. Depending on the person and the lie, and whether or not it actually affects my day to day life.

Lied about using the last of the milk? The walls aren't caving in, it's alright!

Lied about whose bed you were in last night. Walls pretty much shattered....

A piece of me wants to crawl away from humanity, but another part of me accepts that that's the way that person is, not me.
"When a man lies he murders some part of the world. These are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives."

First i feel bad ..then i think about why the other person lied, and then try to understand his/her point of view.
I don't always succeed at first, but when i try i finally see his side of the story..then i don't feel so bad.
