Orlando was hit by Hurricane Donna in 1960, not once but twice. This was one of the rare hurricanes that make a return trip.
In 2004 Orlando was hit by three hurricanes, Charley, Francis and Jeane.
Between 1960 and 2004, Orlando never even got close to a hurricane. Winds up to 45+ mph did happen, rain in record amounts did fall, but hurricane, no way. Now tornados did happen, not to downtown Orlando, but on the out skirts.
For the people who think Orlando doesn't get hit hard, travel to the Good Samaratian retirement village in Kissimmee. I traveled through Orlando to check on my mother who lives there. The place was devastated beyond comprehention. Getting to Good Sam from Ocala was an ordeal lasting 6 hours. South Orlando had no electrical power, street lights didn't work, as I approcahed Kissimmee, the failed street lights were being watched by donut eating policemen.
Yes, Orlando does and will continue to be hit by hurricanes. When and where, no one can predict.

Yes there is a chance. Orlando is less than 40 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Last one to hit Orlando, I think, was Hurricane Jeanne.

Yes, I live on the coast. When Hurricane Jeanne came through lots of people I knew left Bradenton/Sarasota for Orlando. They got hit harder than we did.

Orlando would experience high winds and rain, but the effects would not be as bad as those felt on the coast, due to the fact that Orlando is so far inland.
