Gun control laws vary by state. So, you need to check your local state legislature to see who is proposing what.
Certainly, there is no massive nation-wide campaign to eliminate all firearms. And Congress doesn't have the legal authority to do so -- under the 2nd Amendement, only states can impose most firearms regulations.
But if there is a common thread in many states, it is eliminating so-called "assault weapons" -- weapons that are capable of automatic fire. Many states ban these weapons already, based on the rationale that there no valid non-criminal civilian use for wanting to shoot hundreds of rounds per minute in a wide area. Many of those laws were passed in the wake of massacres like Columbine.

I take position to be Democrat, retired from the military and don't have a mission with guns. What i'm listening to is that the Mexican cartel are paying for guns from Smith & Wesson for instance. attack guns and all kinds of ammo won't be able to be made quickly adequate using gun commerce legally operating from the U.S. to Mexico. it is not any diverse than what frequently takes position in street gang wars in the city. What ought to you recommend we do? surely.

Im a Democrat and I really do think taking guns away from law biding citizens is a bad idea. Law biding citizens do help protect the rest of us BUT.....I do have a problem when gun sellers sell guns to ex felons, kids and crazies...Thats wrong...thats dead wrong.
I do have a problem when non military own stuff that inappropriate. Whats inappropriate? Thats is not easy to say but we can start at the top with nuclear weapons and work ourselves down the chain. If youre expecting an invasion, let the rest of us know so we can fight along with you. If not, do you really need to cut down hundreds of people all at once?

No.
Our biggest concerns are these: keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and children and the mentally ill. Ensuring that gun owners are responsible (keep them safe and away from children, making sure they don't get used on family, friends, neighbors, etc. in drunken rages, or otherwise mis-used).
Being able to trace guns used in crime to the criminal who used it.
Getting rapid fire weaponry off the streets and out of schools -- oh, yeah, and banning their use for hunting. If you can't murder an unarmed animal with the guns designed for that purpose, you have no business hunting.
Edit: BTW, if you're sincere in your question, you'll pick one of the honest dem answers as Best, as they accurately represent the view you're asking about.

When a gun supporter claims they need 30 round mags and AK47's for hunting, they lose all credibility. Also, nobody needs a 30 round magazine and Ak47 for home security because a shotgun is a much better choice.
If they simply admitted that they don't want to give up their weapons because they fear, deep down, they will have to rise up agains the "gubmint" someday, many more people would probably chuckle and agree.
Personally, I'd like to simply enact much harsher penalties for anyone who uses a gun in the commission of a crime.

Not all Democrats are Anti-Gun Morons. You even have some republicans that are AGM's . It is a sad fact that most liberal Democrats have jumped on the anti gun ban wagon because most liberals are anti gunners and ignorant of the sporting use and self defense use of a gun. Also I wouldnt call it propaganda. Just read what people like the Clintons, Spitzer, and other hard core AGM Democrats say.

This democrat doesn't, I have owned a gun since I was 9 years old. I own several now, I use them for target and hunting, I have never harmed a human being with one. I was taught gun safety by my Grand father. . I do think that if you misuse as gun or use it for illegal activity that you shouldn't be able to own one. You should have to give up that right. .

Republican propaganda is all it is. They have been saying it for years. Still do you see Dem's at your door asking you for your weapons? Ask who backed the turn in your guns to the police day for tickets to a game event, money, etc... And it has become quite the yearly event since.

I'm a weapon carrying Democrat, but I have a permit to carry with all of my weapons registered. I don't think the Amendment should be changed. All of the other blabber is coming from the Neocons propagandist to stir more lies.
