Kensington Oval, Barbados

The Kensington Oval has been the home of the Pickwick CC since 1882. Initially a pasture on a plantation 600 yards from the coast, it has developed into one of the most imposing grounds in the Caribbean. The authorized capacity is 15,000, though more have been packed in on occasions.

In more recent times, the locals have often been outnumbered by tourists as Barbados is a major tourist centre and the situation is going to be similar during the World Cup. The pitches at Bridgetown are usually fast and bouncy, but generally favor batsmen.
The venue is steeped in history as it the first England touring side (1895), the first combined West Indies side (against MCC in 1910-11) and was also the venue of West Indies' first Test in 1930. The reason for the chequered history is mainly geographical as Barbados is the easternmost island in the West Indies making it the first port of call for visitors from Europe.
The first Test series created plenty of records, with Andrew Sandham's 325 the first Test triple hundred (in 1920 Tim Tarilton was the one to hit the first triple century in West Indies on the ground).
