Ok, I own an 85' Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It needs some work. Here is a list of things that it needs:

-Fix a leak in the transmission
-A New muffler and exhaust pipe
-A Tune-up
-An oil change
-Wiper blades

I'm taking it to a mechanic for everything because I don't wanna mess anything else. I need to know how much this is all going to cost before I go so I have the money. Preferably would like an actual mechanic to answer this question but anyone who knows could give me their input too.

I need a really accurate quote or a really accurate ballpark quote, including costs of labor and all that. Thanks!

I'm sure of everything except the transmission, the only way I can tell there is a leak is because theres a small puddle underneath the car, that's why I figured it's leaking.

They'll want to do a transmission overhaul....est $250.00 (min.)
New muffler and exhaust....est $175.00 (min.)
Tune up....$150.00
Oil Change....$29.00
Wiper Blades (2)....$6.00/ea.

Total Estimate: $726.00
**Now, we all know what happens when we are at the shop or at home waiting for the call...mechanic comes in (or calls us at home), worried look on his face and exclaims "Mr. Carowner, got some bad news for ya...while we were in there we found you're gonna need....(whatever)...."
add $500.00 to original estimate.

I could be way off depending on where you are located and who you take it to so, let's see what others come up with.

There is NO way to get a "real accurate quote" without someone looking at and properly diagnosing the vehicle. Example: you have a transmission fluid leak, Is it coming from the front pump area? In that case the transmission would have to be removed to do the repair. Or is it a transmission output shaft seal that is leaking? A transmission cooler line? Big difference in parts but there is an even greater difference between each job in the labor time each takes. New muffler and exhaust pipe. Muffler and the pipe to the back or from the exhaust manifolds back?
Tune-up: does it need spark plugs only or cap & wires and spark plugs? There are two many variables!!

Prices will vary of course. You are looking at shop labor between $68 and hour and up depending on where you take it. The only repair that might shock you is the transmission leak. You didnt state if it was shifting rough or just possibly a bad gasket. This alone could run several hundred to a couple thousand for a new or rebuilt transmission. Muffler and exhaust about $349 parts an labor, tune up usually starts at $79 and up, oil change is about $19 and up, wiper blades are around $15 and you can put those on yourself to save on a labor charge. Try to get quotes on the phone first or take it in for an estimate before dropping it off to get worked on. Get a ballpark on price or else you could end up with a very large hole in your wallet.

Can't say about the transmission. the rest aren't too bad.
Wipers 10-15
tune up 100 more or less
oil 15-25
muffler and pipe 200-300

Best suggestion, get an estimate before committing. You might also want to have different things worked on at different shops.

The muffler shops might give you a better deal on the exhaust work.

Do the wiper blades yourself (I dont care who you are)...

if i were you i would call around and get the lowest price.it depends on where the leak is,i mean if its the front seal, then your looking at some bucks.
