What is wrong with these people? Some say its their childhood that plays a role in it. I don't doubt it! But I had it just about as bad as you can get it when I was a child. But I don't go around harming children or raping women. I had alot of psychological problems growing up and I still have some today! I admit it! But If I thought I might become something like that I would turn myself over to the psychiatrists. I can't understand why the don't seek help before hand! There is always hope until you cross that line and harm someone! Then I say its your own fault and you deserve to be PUNISHED!!!!! But if these people would seek help prior to committing such a horrible act; I can't help but wonder how much more safe our children and women would be! When they cross the line I believe 100% that it is too late to do much talking!

I'm referring to rapists and child molesters.

It's their crutch and cop out to have as poor/sorry excuse to commit such an act on another that was done to them. It's the psychiatrists that are telling them it's a disease - illness -sickness. When what it really comes down to is character. I don't buy or believe the whole cr*p of it wasn't their fault because it happened to them. I like you went through it too when I was a young child. And I never committed such a crime on another. So I get infuriated when those who do try to become blameless for their actions. Talking to psychiatrists prior to the act or after the fact still would not prevent them from going out and doing it anyway. Or again. Those are just the sad hard truths - inside they really are monsters and nothing will change that.

Let's start with the fact that "sex offender" is a very broad category of crimes -- everything from rape and child molestation to urinating in public or streaking. So, it really matters what particular crimes you are asking about.

But let's assume you mean forcible rape and child molestation.

Rape is about force and control over others. Sex is just the weapon being used. So, most people who commit rape do so because they want to dominate, rather than relate.

Child molestation is entirely different, and is based on two things. First, pedophilia, which is a sexual attraction to children. Like any other sexual orientation -- straight, gay, whatever -- that's just how their brain is wired. They find children attractive, as opposed to finding adults (male or female) attractive.

But just being a pedophile doesn't make someone a criminal, or child molestor. No more than thinking about rape makes someone a rapist. The line is cross when those thoughts and desires are put into criminal action. Pedophilia becomes more than just a thought -- it becomes a reason to molest children.

But the thing that makes the person criminal is not just the desire -- its the inability or refusal to control it. Just like rape isn't about desire -- it's about taking action on that thought.

Nobody chooses to me, I am potential one if I get convicted, I didn't choose it your assholes. Because I made 2 stupid mistakes my life is over, ******* ridiculous, I didn't do anything sick, i asked a 115 yr old about what they'd do for sex with guys, and what they've done. I told her i was scared to get close to her due to it escalating, I commented on how pretty she is, she was good looking to me. I asked her how big her breasts were, and said I thought I'd like them, nothing wrong with liking the features of a female who is able to reproduce and is 15, I wasn't going to act on my impulses due to get some sort of emotional feelings towards her, it was more like a friendship with her. And I have sex with a fellow 21 yr old friend who happens to have the mind of a 12, yr old and I never knew. It's bullshit I have to pay and lose my teaching career I am struggling and working so hard for. I have severe depression and do not care about anything and I start compulsively getting sexual I guess, but I am not trying to hurt people. And to slam me with fines and make me a dreg society is horseshit. I am just another stupid 21 year old who make a bad decision

I don't care how bad a person's childhood is, there's no excuse for these kinds of crimes (rapes and child molestation, I mean, I could care less about someone who streaks at a football game...)

As for why they don't seek help? Well, to tell the truth, if they weren't so fearful of being ostracized by society for what's going on in their minds, they probably would.

Look at it this way... if you were a pedophile (one who hasn't ever acted on the urge) who thought that you needed help, and you went to your family or friends and said, "Hey, you know, I've been having these weird urges. I don't like having them and I want them to stop."

You know what would happen? You'd have some self-righteous jackhole jump up shouting, "Let's cut this F@CKER'S HEAD OFF!"

(The poster directly below proves my point...)

That's why they don't seek help.

If they've actually commited such a crime, I'm all for the cutting off of heads, mind you, but still - if they're honestly trying to not act on their urges and are seeking help, I think the world could really benefit by studying these people. Maybe by actually figuring out why they desire what they desire, we can prevent future crimes from happening.

You are so correct, I believe that it isn't a sickness or disease but rather an excuse and should be harshly punished since the woman or child will be scarred for life, so the "offender" should be as well. Sexual crimes are horrendous and sometimes overlooked, some people never recover from them and that trust towards others is lost forever, yet you hear these people have done this numerous times and been caught more than once...It's just pitiful.
