It does not precisely MEAN "sun" (that would be Greek "helios" [combining form "heli(o)-]),. But it DOES *relate* to the sun:

The basic word is HALO which goes back to Gk. halos "disk of the sun or moon, ring of light around the sun or moon"

no - its related to salt or halogen
you could tie it to "halo" but thats the closest and is more like a band of light encircling an object

are you thinking of "heli" or "helio"- this is sun !

i think its not hal but words like hel, or helio/helios that relate to the sun....
