Prior to sowing seeds for a new lawn, you should spray the existing weeds with Roundup. The beauty of Roundup is that it is readily neutralized once it comes into contact with the soil and won't pose a problem to future seed emergence. Pulling your weeds will be time-consuming and you might leave some roots behind in the process which will likely grow back.

Keep in mind that it may require another application to eliminate all of your existing weeds. When you have lots of weeds, the larger weeds will shield the smaller ones and they won't be exposed to the weedkiller during your first application.

Hope this answered your question. Good luck!

I have had good experiences with round up. It works from the foliage to kill the roots. Great stuff. I used it on my garden and then tilled. I already have lettuce, radishes and onions coming up but no weeds. Thank goodness for roundup. NOW I did have an experience with trying to pull the weeds up. They over took my flower garden and I had to mow over the whole thing. So definately spray and give it a few days to work.....

Thats a tough question to answer.
There are so many factors involved in spraying weed killers. I have dogs and a koi pond so I have to be especially careful.........If it's in the front yard use some Weed- be- Gone . If you have no small children pets or fish pond it won't be too much of a problem, or just use a weed eater.
