Im an AL East fan, but the central is way better. The AL East only has two good teams left being New York and Toronto. Boston is getting older, their pitching staff is way past their prime, and everyone overlooks how their record is declining slowly and how Toronto finished in 2nd in the division last year. The AL Central has 3 teams that can win a world series being Cleveland, the Twins, and White Sox.

I love the East, but overall based on Winning pct, Top-Bottom teams and key players, the Central is superior (but not by much). The East has better Leading teams (Red Sox, Yankees and Jays), but the Central is more complete (Tigers, Twins, White Sox, and Indians). You also can't forget the MVP and Cy Young both came from the Central. Lastly, the last 2 World Series Finalists came from the Central (oddly enough in both leagues). But, it also should be noted that before that in 03' & 04' it was the AL East at the World Series.

The Central is better top to bottom because any of four teams could win that dvision where I think 99 out of a hundred people would pick Boston or New York to win the East. Two teams made the playoff out of the Central last year, and while I would not predict that this year, the Central will probably end up being more exciting.

AL Central is definitely the toughest. Why? Better TEAMS, the AL East represents some of the best offensive teams in baseball but the AL Central is great at every aspect of the game and the one that is more important that just slugging, thats pitching. Just look at who has represented the AL in the last two seasons in the WS, the Tigers and White Sox. Both of whom beat an AL East team to get to the WS. That in itself tells the whole story. So its without question the AL Central.

It's very close. The AL East has two very good teams(NY and Boston) that make there division good. But, the AL Central has a lot of good teams (Chicago White Sox, Twins, Indians, and the Tigers). All of the good teams against two very good teams. I would have to go with the central due two they are more balanced.

A.L. East isn't even close.
The top 2 offensive catchers in the league are in the central (Joe Mauer, Victor Martinez). Konerko and Hafner can easily win HR titles (Hafner hits 42 in 129 games last year-not to mention Hafner is becoming one of MLB's best hitters). Detoit and Cleveland have some of the best starting staffs in baseball. Twins and Chicago have capable guys and perhaps Johan Santana is the best in MLB (too bad for Twins he's gonna leave for $$$ they can't pay). Some of the arms in the Central are the best in the majors. Not to mention Sowers -the kid from Cleveland who came up last year and dominated (Even ripped NYY). And wait until MLB gets a look at Adam Miller (SP) from Cleveland (14 I.P. spring training 0 runs-Bobby Cox calls the best young arm coming up in baseball when he destroyed Atlanta)...add in Morneau, Guillen---Grady Sizemore may be the best all around player in the A.L.---throw in Ivan Rodriguez, Mike Sweeney, Gary Sheffield...JIM THOME. Add in the fact that 4 teams in the division can win 86 or more games. Factor in the reality that NYY have a terrible starting rotation this year--the worst since 1993-get past an aging Mussina and the Yankees have zip...the truth was coming out last year when Jaret Wright pitched for NYY in the postseason--that's how bad it's getting in the Bronx---Yankees have batting firepower, of course. Only the Cleveland Indians were close to them in batting last year-and should surpass NYY this year with the guns they added. Boston-solid performers-David Ortiz only gets picthes to hit because of Manny...we all know that. Josh Beckett and an aging Schilling and a pretty good pick up from overseas with a nice arm---Boston overpitches NYY this year to win that Division-but they can't out-pitch the Central. Toronto-Halladay is nasty-but I will match up Cleveland,Detroit,Chicago, and Twins #1 vs Halladay anyday of the week and be Competitive--and I think Ryan IS IN FACT the best closer in the A.L.--it certainly is NOT anyone from the Twins. One good year doesn't make you the best (EX. Bob Wickman saving 50 games in 2005). Baltimore is a flop-Tampa Bay should be in a seperate league with Kansas City and Washington. The facts I stated resolve this question...

a.l. central definitely has the better talent, and this coming year, will probably have the better record.
Yanks lost Sheffield to detroit, which will only make them better, and although the yanks and bo-sox boasts great teams, the rest of the east lags as far as any stability goes.
the only thing bringing down the a.l. central are the royals.
the east has to put up with the mediocrity of the blue jays, and the underperforming devil-rays and orioles.
the central has the american league in a choke-hold as far as power and pitching goes.
the east has sure hitters both n power and average (ortiz,wells,ramirez,a-rod,jeter,abreu), but lacks any sure-fire pitching depth. halladay is sure fire, but with wang hurt and dice-k, well, being a roll of the dice, the east has a handful of question marks. The upper hand: A.L. Central
