i just bought a wireless mouse for my laptop (a sony vaio). my o.s. is windows vista and the mouse that i purchased is compatible with it, but it isn't working! i installed the software, placed the reciever into the usb port, restarted my computer...but nothing is happening.

the mouse is a microsoft wireless notebook optical mouse 4000. how could i fix this?

Like the poster above said, did you put the batteries in ?? If you did check your manual to see if you need to sync the mouse with the wireless receiver. Also try another USB port and make sure that the receiver is plug in tight. You may need to go to Microsoft website and download the latest driver for your mouse since the driver provided on the disc is most likely an older version.

Not familiar with Vista -- does it have device manager in the Control Panel? In XP we would:
Start
Settings
Control Panel
System
On the Hardware tab,
click Device Manager.
Right-cl the item to be checked and select Properties.

You should be told whether or not the item is working properly. You can also update the driver from here.

Can't hurt to try.

First of all, check the cells.If the problem still persists then see wheather ther is something in your comp. room which might be blocking the signals of your mouse
