Why is it that Southerners seem to be Republican and the most loyal to Bush even as he flounders? Why are Northerners more liberal? Is it a Religious thing? Or a cultural thing? A black thing or a white thing? Even Southern Democrats are Conservative. I have my own opinion, but will not state it here and allow free expression for answerers

I'll sum up the south in a very short overview.

Family ties, religous beliefs( that is why the bilbe belt stretches all the way across the south to texas) and disinterest in change. hated to put that one in there but its true. I lived in the south for several years in the 90's and there where laws on the books there that where made in the civil law. everyone knew they where wrong, but no one bothered to take them off the books. most notable is the law that forbid any man of african desent from owning lands. in order to buy a house you would have to pay a lawyer 500.00 to basically amend the mortgage agreement to allow for you to buy the property if you where black. it took a law siut in the late 1990's to finally change the law as unconstitutional.

The north tends to be more urban and therefore people up there are more open to new ideas and new people. They also value education. People in the south tend to be more rural. They are not as exposed to new ideas and people and tend to believe what their parents, preachers, and pundits tell them. They tend to value religion more then education.
