Hi Ali. I'm afraid that both of the answers above are incorrect.

In solar eclipses, the western side of the sun (looking up from earth) is the one that disappears first.

In lunar eclipses, however, the east side of the moon tastes first bite.

In a solar eclipse, the eastward-moving moon takes its first bite out of the west, or right (as seen from the Northern Hemisphere) side of the sun.

In lunar eclipses, the moon again moving from west to east, goes east-side-first into the earth's shadow. The left side (to us Northerners) gets eaten first.

Hi. The Sun's east side is covered first and the Moon's west side. The Moon rotates from west to east in our sky, so a blocking of the Sun has to hit the east side first. The Earth's shadow is approached by the Moon from the west so the west side is covered first. Good Question!

I am 75 percent sure the east side of the moon is covered first, west side of the sun.
