Firstly - don't use the word pale. Use fair. It has a nice, pretty ring to it.
Now that we feel better about the word - let's tackle the issue. If you think beauty's in the tan, you're wrong. Ever taken a look at high fashion couture models? They're fair. They have flair. And I'm sure you'd agree with me when I say "They'd look rediculous with a tan!" This season, agents are looking for fair skin.
If you're not convinced, fake confidence. The real thing will come.
In the meantime - eliminate 'pastyness'. Being pasty and fair are two different things; fair people CAN glow. Exfoliate regularly, use light reflecting make up... smile. Take the edge off the 'whiteness'. Use a tanning moisturizer, such as Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion. I know I do. Stay moisturized and healthy... and you've reached gorgeousness.
If you still aren't convinced - think about this. When you're 40, compare yourself to someone of the same age who has spent their youth tanned and 'terrific'. Fair skin has a youthful essence to it, and if you've been wearing your sunscreen - your face will look 30 or even 20 something. Your tanned counterpart is going to look closer to 50.
Fantastic.
Good luck!

If you can't tan then just use a good self-tanning lotion, make sure you cover every bit of your skin evenly (it takes practice). You need to put it on every few days or once a week at least to get the effect. It works within hours so there's an instant cure for you, but don't go swimming until the day after you use it.

I use Jergen's natural glow and it works really well. It comes in 3 different shades. In your case, just make sure you get the one for lighter skin. It does not turn you orange and it does look natural. I turned 5-6 shades darker in one week, but you have to be consistent because if you miss a day, it will fade. I think it costs $7-8. Be healthy, beautiful, and cancer free. No more tanning beds!

Don't fight it. If you're pale, then you're pale. You don't need to be tan to wear a bikini. I'm sure you look perfect the way you are. Be self-confident. Everybody loves self-confident people. Love your skin and adore it. Pretty soon, people will follow in your footsteps and wonder if pale skin is really cool because you seem to like it. Don't fight yourself and learn to love yourself.

Do not take one step in the tanning bed! It burns your skin! Just put on something that you rub on, lie out in the sun and then when you're done..the perfect glow! There ya go!
