Senator Taft(R) of the Taft-Hartley act said that "a pair of bib overalls and a dollar a day is good enough for any workin man".

I can't see that is in my best interest to vote for a republican that shares this belief.

Republicans are for the market determining the wage, not the government.

Take an economics class. And Taft, are you seriously trying to use a guy who lived a hundred years ago to prove a modern point? That would be like someone saying Taft was crazy because in 1812, $1 every two weeks was good enough. Seriously, though, take an econ class.

They're not for lower wages.

There would be no arguing if Congress would make it a federal law to raise minimum wage ten cents per year. That way it keeps up with price increases and cost of living.

If it were done that way however, dems wouldn't be able to climb up on there crusty soap box every few years and acuse conservs of being for the rich. When in reality it serves the dems to keep the poor as they are b/c then when they throw a single working mother a bone she thinks they are doing her a favor eventhough there are actuall keeping her down.

And the conservs wouldn't be able to acuse the dems of destroying small business by imposing wages that mom and pop stores wouldn't be able to aford.

Unfortunately, this is one of those issues that will never really be fully resolved b/c there is to much to loose by both parties.

Who is for lower wages? Allow the market to determine what wage is correct.

You probably should not think you flipping burgers at McDonald's has the same value as hanging Sheetrock or laying tile flooring.

Are you not making all that you want to make? Negotiate a raise by showing how you are worth more, or go work elsewhere.

According to their argument - it's suppose to help employers, small businessman/women, and corporate business's to keep employees, hire additional employees and able to give them raises, benefits (medical, dental, vision insurances), bonuses in a Republicans happy little world. They still haven't caught on that in the REAL WORLD one is unable to purchase necessities (home, vehicle, food, medical, etc...) as they did in the days of Taft. And they had a h*ll of a time doing it all then too.

They busted up the benefits by enacting a part-time hours bill. Anyone working under 32 hours a week are no longer entitled to benefits. They are also looking at making 60 hour work weeks the new part-time hours now.

I won't believe what Conservatives say about lower wages unil i see CEO's making just half million instead of $20,000,000 a year. They want us to live in poverty while we eat mac and cheese under blankets. No one on Earth deserves 5 or 10 or 15 million a year, especially if that money comes from the pot they pay the workers from

I certainly agree with what you are saying. I have never been a member of any union, but I have always felt that most of them have the right idea. Give the people who work hard, and make money for the owners of the big corporations, their share of the pie. Give them a decent living wage. *sm*

in adam smith's "wealth of nations", he doesn't advocate a minimum wage,,or social security,,or public education,,,,or any other social programs,,,every man for himself. this is the book worshipped by repukes, just as "das capital" was worshipped by the soviets, but when communism wasn't working, the soviet communists proved to be the most patriotic regime the world has ever known. They gave up power. When the U.S. is the poorest nation on earth, the repuke elitists will still be pissed that they don't have every last dollar on the planet

whilst the time comes for the biggest economic rip off in history, instead of putting the blame the place it belongs, the Republicans being real to type will basically factor their finger on the Democratic administration returned and in simple terms save on protecting on with business enterprise as time-honored...
