They are called daytime running lights. Any vehicle manufactured with them, must have them working or else you may be fined. Any vehicle (in Canada) made on/or after December 1, 1989 Must be equipted with daytime running lights. If vehicle is made after date, and does not come equipted with daytime running lights, a daytime running light kit must be installed.

I work in a garage, and I have to install these every so often, you can disable them (in some cases) but the fines are quite high, and disableing them are not recomended.

If they are not the daytime running light (DRL) you're talking about, please be more specific.

You did not mention the car. BUT some cars have the lights on automatically when running. They are called "running lights." lol Supposedly a safety feature like the 3d brake light.

FYI, the theory behind this was that when a driver looked in his rear view mirror he would readily notice the car with the running lights on than a car without the lights.

Just like they found that with the 3d brake lights, accidents are lessened. This one is fact, but true. I guess the more red you see or maybe because the red light is higher, move even with eye level, but a proven fact.

i own a shop and its not broken, this is actually a safety feature, and it doesn't hurt anything at all on it, have a truck that they do this on,there is a way to disable them out by the drivers side head light there's a fuse like looking thing plugged in the the harness that comes off that light ,remove it ,and it disables them from coming on when the key is on unless you turn them on,good luck i hope this helps.

my truck had daytime running lamps i think it was to turn em off you press the button for the inside lights three times relatively quickly. thats for a silverado though not sure if yours would be the same. I found it reading the booklet that came with it.

do you have automatic headlights? If so then move the headlight switch to the off position.

Do you have daytime running lights? Not sure on that one.

if you have a new car with daytime running lights ( like most new cars now...) theres nothing you can do...it's the U.S. DOT making the car manufacturers do it for safety.
