Because you used it to get the dirt off, and it is a dirty cloth now. so you have to clean it, so if can again be a wash cloth.

To remove dirt and oils that came from your skin and to kill bacteria so it is not redeposited back to your skin this is why you have to wash a washcloth.

it gets discolored from the dirt it removes its ment to losen the dirt on you and it gets dirty no one is going to make you wash it but i would suggest doing it

also if someone else uses it.....
