Was it really necessary to have made "Rocky Balboa"?

And "Rocky 5", and "Rocky 4"?
I enjoyed the first three, I got 4 & 5 cause they were in the set, and I would feel incomplete. I just got the latest and I think it wasn't necessary. I'm going to give it away.

Well, since they made 4 and 5 (which was absolutely terrible), they needed to make a better ending to the Rocky franchise. The first 4 were successful but the 5th one bombed. I thought Rocky Balboa was one of the best in the series.

Nobody wanted the series to end on Rocky 5.
That movie is terrible.
People can say that Stallone only made the movie to make money, but I personally think he made it as an apology to fans of the Rocky series who actually had to sit through the travesty that was Rocky V. So in that regard, it was totally necessary.

I really liked Rocky Balboa.

I think it had some positive messages and ended the series on a high note. Five should have never been made.

I'd rank Rocky Balboa as a tie with Rocky II.

It gives a better ending to the series than #5 wich sucked. It was a lot better than expected.
