I was a licensed gun smith in the 1980's for about 5 years. If you have mechanical aptitude to start with, most of the battle is won.

As far as exploded firearms diagrams, you can get Gun Digest book of Exploded Firearms Views for either long guns or handguns. Each book will cost about 25 bucks but if you do much work on guns you'll refer to them alot.

There are several caveats. It is rare to have to force anything with a firearms. They are always loaded. If you break it you bought it. Any mistake you make will probably be on your dime. Specialized tools can usually be made rather than bought.

They are a number of "How To" books on gunsmithing and there are some schools just for that. They will not be cheap and although they may try to place you in a job, it may not be anywhere near where you want to be and the pay wont make you rich overnight.. You will never know all there is about guns so you are always learning.

I wish you luck and hope this helped some.
