Except me and a few friends. I am mostly country, however, almost everyone else I know thinks country is stupid. In every book I read, the characters think country music is sappy and dull. In a lot of movies it is like that too. When we run in PE. They play this crappy music I can't understand. They've had about 2 country songs the whole time.

I love country music, but if I hear another type of genre, and like it, I'll like that song. It's just everyones where i live in WY is all like "all country music sounds the same, its all sappy, its all whiney." And I don't know about you, but there's a big difference between loud fun drinkin' songs, and slow, touching love songs. I am a country girl even if I have a few songs from other genre's that I like.

I know i feel the same way.All my friends think country is horrible. It's because country doesn't go to way they like it.Like most people these days like the crappy boy bands and i can't stand those people. When i used to do PE in school they would play rap music.I couldn't understand a word they said so i took the teacher a CD i had of country and he played it.There was Sweet Home Alabama,Achy Breaky Heart,Little Bitty,I'm Gonna Miss Her,Save A Horse,Ride A Cowboy and Get Rythym. And turns out that the school liked it and they played it ever since. So my advice is just to ignore the people that hate it because there just jealous of them.

No one likes country music? Tell that to the people in Nashville...they'd cry...all the way to the bank!

Sure, some people like to make fun of so-callled stereotyped "redneck" music but as an aspiring singer/songwriter in the pop, folk, "cowboy" and country music genres, I can tell you that country music and its variants are VERY much alive and well and is growing in popularity worldwide...especially with the younger generation living in both urban and rural areas.

Country music isn't just one style of music. It has evolved greatly quite a lot over the past eight or so decades. It's actually more "pop" than country and there are so many subgenres that as long as people keep an open mind they can find something they like... from traditional twang-y blue grass/Grand Ole Opry style to the "hick hop" of Cowboy Troy and Big and Rich to "roots" based Americana you can hear on college radio stations.

Right now, country is the #1 radio format in the US with over 2300 stations currently airing...compared to 1900 stations with religious programming, and 1500 stations that are considered adult contemporary formats. Actual top 40 radio pop radio stations number less than 400 nationwide. Right now there are only 150 classical stations...and recently, a Los Angeles radio station, K-Mozart, switched from classical to country to the consternation of classical music fans in the city...quite a feat for the nation's 2d largest radio market, wouldn't you say?

Country music is no more stupid than music in any other genre...everyone to their own taste. So you enjoy your music and don't worry about whether "everyone" or "no one" likes it.

Because country music is basically created by the same studio musicans, and they use computer auto tune so everything just sounds the same. No originality, no identity. Also who wants to hear crap like" she thinks my tractor is sexy" thats about the most stupid crap i ever heard. And Toby Keith is the worst singer live I ever heard. Can't carry a tune live.
The main problem is when a decent country artist comes along every record label has to find someone just like that one thats hot, thus you get a lot of generic copies that winds up hurting the originals career.Instead of finding unique artist that have their own thing.

The last time I looked, aside from the Dixie Chicks, country concerts were sell outs. Personally I liked country a lot better before it went "UP TOWN". I listen to the very old and classic country stations.

Actually, country radio has seen audiences soar while raiting for other stations, like the ones that play stuff MTV would play have been declining. I guess it just depends on where you are in the country. Where I am, it's the same thing as you. But somebody is listening.

Don't let it bother you that you are one of the few in school who likes country music. Musical taste it purely individual. If everyone liked the same kind of music, the other music would die. Enjoy what you like but also try to learn to like all kinds of music. You don't necessarily have to like all of each kind but try to find some of it in each category and listen to it occasionally.

Maybe its where you are. Where I'm at country is gaining popularity in major leaps and bounds. I am more an alternative fan, but am finding more that I like. Except for the fact that MANY country songs make me cry.

The money is in urbania, and the urbanites think because they moved to a big city they own everything. No one can take away country's tradition and excellent lyrics.

New acts are trying to sound slicker to capture more urban imagination.
