My husband came home the other day from fishing and threw his left over minnows in my aquirium. I have 3 huge goldfish and a footlong algae sucker. Now there are maybe 25 to 30 minnows swimming everywhere. What kind of problems will I have? He said he just wanted to keep them for fishing.

It's a 30 gallon tank. And the fish that I have in there I've had for 4 years. I'm afraid the minnows will cause problems.

The tank is big enough to handle the extra fish. I would be worried about disease. Keep a good eye on them for the next couple of weeks.

The largest problem that I see is the over crowding and extra waste. That many minnows tossed into a tank can send your bio filter into a downward spiral. The added excess waist can cause your ammonia levels to spike.

How large is your tank? I would keep an eye on the ammonia levels. If you see them starting to spike you are going to have to do extra water changes.

Also, were the minnows wild caught or purchased? Some wild caught minnows can carry parasites.

it will be fine you'll find out you might have an overstocked tank and you'll clean alot more often to keep them alive its best you try to keep them living Its kind of mean sticking them to the hook to fish but its better you dont waste them -(I use minnows to fish all the time though) www.myfishtank.net thats what I use for most of my fishie problems.

Ditto to DanielleZ completely. The ammonia will be your single biggest concern. Parasites and other diseases are quite possible as well, but really somewhat unlikely.
