because they are young; don't have anything better to do; not to worrry ....when you get to be 45 this will all change......then you realize work is work and you need to make the job work for you and have fun and play hard....life is too short!

It's mania. Young men at that age are out to prove something to themselves and the rest of the world. They're not as "invincible" as they were when they were teens but they're also not as responsible as a 45 y/o father of two. It's really awful when you think about their actual hourly rate when you take all the extra hours that you're not paid for into account (if you're salaried). I would question why it takes so much time to complete a job (maybe there are efficiency cracks) and whether or not some of the more menial, administrative tasks can be delegated to someone who is of a lower pay scale. These types of individuals will either burn out quickly or turn into raging, insomniac, alcoholics slowly. So sad. Take care.

Habit. I started young working a lot of hours. I still work a bit. Maybe the desire to do the best you can at your work(what you are good at). The thing to do is realize if it is not you busines that if something happens they will not care about you. You need a life and friends that will care about you and your company. Work is a nessesity to pay bills. Do not make your life of it. A lot happier since I do not work all the time. Would your really have much less if you did not work so much? I don't have much if any less.

I've thought about this myself , and for me anyhow , it's due to a combination of things . I have a family at home and like being able to provide pretty much what ever they might need , but I also have an addiction to my job . I'm a steel worker and there's just something about it that I just love doing it . Finding a happy median between the job and the family does get difficult at times , but above all you have to make time for the family .

I am the manager. The success, or failure, of the department is my responsibility. I do what I need to do.
