The rules would depend on what Indian tribes. Some tribes allowed it's people to get married than have many girlfriends. Other tribes allowed it's people to marry many women and many girlfriends. Other tribes would prosecute for cheating on your wife. And some tribes wouldn't allow the woman to leave the house after marriage.
The most interesting tribe was the small tribe that settled in north-eastern United States. The fatwa tribe. When members where married they would be stitched by the arm. When one died the other would be berried alive with the dead body to help in the afterlife.

In India marriages are sacramental union between individuals based on their religious believe. The society & law recognize such union & the couple gets freedom to live & bear children who are legitimate & fore runner for the future. As far rules after getting married are not as such to guide how to live together in the society but social norms exist that they have to follow accordingly. Married couples who fail to live in love & peace between themselves infringe the legal rights of each other for which they can face legal sanctions/punishments. For example any husband who harass his wife for some property or valuable security can be charged for mental cruelty & if found guilt can face imprisonment upto 3years & fine, similarly if any wife indulge in any activity that amounts to continuously results in harassment & makes her living together with the husband impossible will amount to mental cruelty for which a decree of divorce can be passed against her. These are only few of the examples but the list is much longer, but the real thing is there exist rules only for preventing wrong doing rather asking what to do or not, because in India society we presume that the married couples are mature enough to understand the significance of social morality, norms & principles so they need not be told in words what to do or not to do. Hope all this help you to understand about Indian social aspect Vis a Vis married couples.

Yes, they do!! But absolutly biased, ie. the Law'n Order favours only Ladies and lately 97% misuse these laws, get the husband and his folks imprisoned, blackmail, threaten, extort and all these with the encouragement by the Government and Lawyers who are out to make a quick buck.
For the smallest difference of opinion if a Lady consults a Lawyer, she is adviced to file a 498A which is a non-baliable and non cognizalble criminal law. Where all the persons she mentions husband, in-laws, cos, relatives and friends all are put behind bars. Then these poor souls need to take a bail and prove their innocence the person who has filed the case does not need to have any evidence and alos if proved to have misused the law she still walks scot free.
Now the above law is applicable for only the 1st 7years after this comes the Domestic Violence Act. In most other countries this could be filed equally by both Man and Woman, but in India only the wife can file it!!
And the worst thing in India is that letigations go on for like decades, where the lawyers make the most of money. These wolfish money sucking Lawyers need to be lynched!!! And 98% of the Indian lawyers fall into this category with absolute no ethics or consience. There is one writing here too who in one of my questions said that he supports it, cause thats his bread'n butter.
Now for a Divorce the husband and his family need to part of with money, property, etcs for no fault of theirs. Its an absolute Women Biased basket of idoitic Laws!! Weather its the Woman's problem or not she still gets the custody of the child but the expenses of child has to be met by the father. So inshort he kind of ends up paying and get abused by the child due to the brainwash by the Mother and folks!!
If given an opportunity I would choose to be a seriel killer killing all those senseless and emotionless lawyers of India!!
As a husband one gets no justice unless he can prove adultry which again is next to impossible!!!

I think they have the same rules as any marriage, to respect and love. As long as you have the basics down, I'm sure you'll do fine. If you want to ask a detailed question go ahead. Well there is one thing that I once heard that they're supposed to have kids, ASAP. ;)
