The reason the motorsports world strips out interiors is because in a wreck with a fire all that foam rubber and synthetic cloth buns producing A: Some material that produces more of a fire hazard and B: the toxic smoke produced from the burning foam rubber padding and the synthetic cloth / plastic covering it. The interior doesn't weigh enough to matter. The whole interior doesn't weigh more than 60-75 lbs if that much. you won't gain more than 1 / 20 of a second

I am going through customizing my interior of my [street] truck. I've been driving with only a steering wheel, shifter (no boot), driver seat, driver seat belt, instrument cluster (secured to the fire wall by help of zip-ties) and door handles and window crank handles. I don't even had a dashboard, or carpet. Right now its the bare minimum of what i need to drive it. I'm waiting on carpet before i get my passenger seat installed, center console, shifter boot (within the console), seat belt (for the passenger side), and what ever else bolts to the floor. I'm revamping my dashboard to my likings, so once thats finished, the instrument clusters home of the fire will will be taken away and it will be back in the dash, and so will my stero (that i miss) and heater controls (that I also miss, living in Canada in the winter on the prerries). Then once the dash is in and the carpet, all i have left is the trim, door pannels (i'm waiting on an electric window kits, and a modual for electric remote locks (i just have electric locks key in turn, unlocks other door, lock door, locks other door.), and headliner and overhead console. I've been stopped once and the cop was looking at me like "what the hell" but gave me a warning and left.
I work in a garage, and I had my truck outback, and it was parked beside a car that was ment to be towed to a scrap yard, they hooked my truck up and took it there by mistake, it got half way there before he was called back, they said it was because the interior was gone, they thought it was the junked one. i thought it was moreso funny then anything.

I cant see why it would be difficult to mount the seats back for driving purposes in the city. The seat belt law is the first thing that comes to mind. The second is the noise bylaw. A stripped car will have a notable hum. Are your mufflers also modified?
If a police car will spot your car and see that it is OBVIOUSLY a race car, it might be safe to presume that he wont think you are driving from a chopchop parts ( parts stolen from a stolen car). Usually, the racing cars have to be loaded into a trailer, or towed. If you get stopped, you probably need all documentation. '
The best place to check is the DMV.

Sure, but it will look stupid. If you are not carrying passengers, you need only a driver seat. You cannot strip out seat belt or air bags, or the dash, as those are all safety items. You cannot remove window glass, or door handles. The front and back windshields are part of the actual structure of the car. However, if you want to carry passengers, then you cannot strip much out at all. Any passenger has to have a properly secured approved seat and seat belt.
