Mike,

the reson why ice is placed inside urinals is to eliminate bad odor caused by smelly urine.

Ice has an active surface area that will literally absorb air born odors. This is the reason why home made ice can sometimes retain a bad salty taste and odor if left too long inside the freezer with other foods.

The more sulfur an ice contains, the more it can absorb bad odors. Therefore, if you are planning on building your own experiment with ice to study the way it eliminates odor, I suggest you use tap water. Tap water contains more sulfur along with other compounds that will aid in the retention of odors in the environment.

Most likely that was a urinal deodorant, no restaurant is going to have someone drop ice cubes in there every half hour, unless tipsy patrons keep dumping the ice out of their drinks in there while taking a leak.

Keeps the smell of uric acid down. The smell exists at higher temperatures, and the ice keeps it smelling good.

That is a deodorant cake. You gotta quit drinking so much, you won't hallucinate. It does make a good target to aim at.
