I wouldn't worry about whether you are being fake or not. The fact is whether you see the bigger picture or not, everyone in high school is unsure of themselves. It's just who is better at hiding it. Things change dramatically once you get out. My advice is to go to college. I don't care if you hate it, it is totally worth it, so many doors open once you get through it. And don't flunk out because you party too much. You'll find that people are really just in the 13th grade. That's when things get really interesting. That's your chance to show something to yourself. A new beginning of sorts. If you are dressing funky and wearing crazy hair doos because your favorite band does or your best friend looks cool like that, believe me when I say that it is your mind reaching for change and new understanding. Find another outlet, broaden your horizons and learn something cool. Nobody can flip a switch except for yourself. People can only point the way. and as far as finding yourself......No matter where you go....there you are!!! That's from a movie, I just can't remember which.

Being fake is doing things to impress others that if given a choice, you probably wouldn't do. You may refrain from saying something because of how others will perceive it.
High school can be hard when trying to find your own path. Rest assured that the path that you choose today will change and grow as you do. And styles of dress come and go like the wind! Focus on your studies and enjoying life. Another good idea is to talk to someone you trust. A cool counselor you connect with, an adult in the family you feel comfortable with. During your high school years, it will be helpful for you to have a person to go to. They can be a good sounding board and can offer advice, especially if they are a little older. One or two good friends are also helpful(your own age).
At times high school can seem overwhelming and that it goes on forever. You can get through it one step at a time. Talking about it will be a big help for you.

How do you decide which style of clothes you wear and how to act? Do you do it because that's what others do, or because it is what feels natural to you?
Ask yourself--
What is most important to me?
What traits do I admire in other people (and which of those traits do I possess, or could I develop)?
What kinds of things do I enjoy doing?
What makes me happy?
After you make a list of those things, think about what your answers mean. That should give you a pretty good idea of who you are. Then just act that way because that's acting like yourself!

You need to ask yourself some questions. Why do you wear the style clothes that you do? Is it because you like them, or because other people like them? Why do you act a certain way? Is it to impress others, or does it come natural? Does the way you act or dress make you comfortable, or does it feel unnatural to you. Maybe you're just going through changes that make you feel 'fake'. If you're not comfortable with yourself, then you need to change something. Do things because you like them, not because others like them. I hope this helps.

You try to wear a certain style of clothes to what? Fit in and "be cool?" I say wear what you like, don't try to wear what you think is "cool" as whatever is defined by others as cool. Fashion trends come and go like the wind, I think you should be more concerned about wearing whatever style YOU feel suits you well.
Secondly if you truly what to learn about who you are, find activities in school that you enjoy doing. For example if writting is what you are really good at, why not write for the school newspaper? Think about what you like to do and get involved with activies that incorporate what you like to do. And don't be afraid to try new things either.
You'll find out a lot about yourself by the things that you all ready like to do. As well you will find out a lot about yourself by doing new things and discovering what you like and what you don't like about anything new that you try.

Hmm.
Right now, you're supposed to be figuring out who you are and who you want to be. This is why you see some folks your age go through huge changes...prep one day, emo the next, etc.
It's basically "let me try this and see if it works for me." One day they'll settle on some choices, and so will you. It's no more fake than test driving a car.

Do you look like your avatar? If you're still in high school you might not know who you are yet. I don't mean to offend you, but sometimes it takes a while to know what you want in life & where you want to go, who you want to be......And then, you can have everything mapped out & it all falls apart & you have to start over. I'm older if not wiser. I hope this helps.

In your conversations, if you find yourself thinking about it alot and your responses and reactions seems really forced even to you, then you're not being yourself. Unfortunately its all part of life to build up your social life.
