Help! I found a great deal on a 1GB RAM upgrade for my laptop, but my system can only hold a TOTAL of 1 GB, so I was trying to get to my original RAM to remove it and replace with the new one, but I can't get the screws out to get under the keyboard! :-( Does anyone know if its possible to disable the original card somehow? Then I could just install the new card in the 2nd slot that's easy to get to.....

Thanks!

Uh...sounds like you really do not know what ram is.

Study up, then come back and ask us.

If your computer takes no more than 1GB, then there's no way you found a 1GB upgrade. The chipset couldn't possibly allow you to add 1GB to the expansion slot. The base ram is permanently installed on the motherboard.

You need to take the old RAM out. It sounds like you don't need to replace it. 1GB is a fair amount of RAM for a laptop.

If you already have a GIG of memory, what do you hope to gain by replacing one gig with one gig?
What am I missing here?
The original memory chip was probably soldered in place and cannot be removed, nor can it be disabled.

I don't think you can disable RAM, but maybe if you put in the new stick there would be an option in the bios????
