When the video plays it is just a blank screen, and that is with any program. But everything else is visible that is on the screen of the laptop. Once, the video showed up, but it didn't before or after. I am baffled, someone help!

Some video cards can't send video to two monitors at once. There's usually an F key that you push at the same time as the fn key to switch monitors.

Go to start screen and right click on any open space,choose and click on properties, click on settings select by placing check mark in appropriate box.
Use this devise as primary monitor or extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor to see on both monitors. go to advanced setting and select set up.

Check that the cable is securely connected, to the laptop and the monitor.

Go to the systems properties page and make sure "dual monitors" is selected.

Did you install any drivers for the speciffic monitor, or is it just using a generic one? That may be an issue...
