A slow learner is said to be someone learning at a rate slower than 85% of their age-mates; IQ usually between 70-85.

Of course, regardless of definition, the brightest and best of us can be slow learners at those things our brains are not well wired to deal with. While one might be a whizz kid at mathematics, the same person might be a slow learner at crochet or reading.

We are all too prepared to put people in boxes. My usual advice to people who say "I am a slow learner" or "I can't do that (eg data anaylsis) because I am no good at it" is to say: say aloud to yourself (and anyone around you) every time you think of eg data analysis (especially if you are supposed to study it) "I love data analysis. I am so good at it I will do really well in this course of study". And believe me it works every time from basic mathematics to advanced studies in psychology.

Why? Because we can re-wire our brains to do and be better at things we previously thought we couldn't do. Tell yourself you can do it and you can. Believe in yourself! The 'slow learner' becomes a different learner and blossoms.
