heh, you feminists only see offensve when it's offensive towards women. if somebody said 'it just goes to show how shallow SOME men really are' nobody would say a word about it.

Leaving aside what I think of the content of this answer itself, I can tell you exactly why it was marked as abuse. Women's studies is a legitimate scholarly discipline. Just like any other discipline, not everyone will be interested in it or even agree with it necessarily. Of course, everyone has the right to their own thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes. That said, if you are not interested in a certain discipline, then you should be posting on a topic that you ARE interested in, rather than trying to ruin a forum for everyone else because you don't agree with it. No productive discussion can take place in that forum because of all the anti-feminists who are not satified with simply disagreeing, but have to try to ruin that forum for eveyone.

Imagine if the psychology section of Yahoo! Answers was constantly bombarded with people who were saying that all psychologists are quacks and that psychology is just a bunch of baloney. Their posts would greatly hinder any productive discussion and learning for those who are interested in the discipline. Imagine that these people had also never taken a psychology class or read any books on the subject, but were just pushing their uninformed assumptions. This is exactly what is happening in the women's studies section of Yahoo! Answers.

So, this post was flagged because those who are interested in and/or experts in women's studies were trying to clean up the section to reclaim it as a productive place of learning. This is the whole philosophy of Yahoo! Answers, and it is very sad that every topic can not be given the respect to exist that it deserves.

Hmm.

(1) Your previous question had nothing to do with feminism. It perhaps had to do with the way society places more value on appearance than personality, but pretty much zippo about the 'f' word.

(2) Women, like most human beings, get tired of being complimented on the way they look. It's exhausting and irritating and makes one feel like all s/he is good for is to be looked at. Why don't men strike up conversations about politics with women? I would marry the first man who did such a thing. A middle-aged, pot-smoking neighbor of mine talks about sex and compliments me on my body _constantly_. It really pisses me off that a woman has to reiterate her disinterest to a guy 50 times before he'll respect what she says. And I don't care about my body. I don't want to hear about it; I already know about it. Tell me something important.

(3) Abuse according to Y!A is not only vulgar language or hate speech. It includes "personal chatting" and other such mechanisms to keep questions as objective and non-personal as possible.

The answer was a bit crude but it's not worse than a lot of stuff I've read here. (By the way, the question of the etymology of "feminism" is something I've thought about too).

But it seems that there's been a lot of negativity and BS going on around here, maybe some people just got a little fed up.

By quickly checking the community guidelines it does say all answers should be courteous since “Yahoo! Answers is a diverse community of people with diverse opinions. It is up to each of us to be polite and treat each other with respect”. Saying “It just goes to prove how shallow some women really are” and “These rumors however, I'm sure, stem from the hypocritical feminist circles” may be considered offensive and not respectful. Although I don’t find his answer offensive and have seen many worse I do think the answer is without merit.

You might be right, but Yahoo! Answers doesn't support subject matter that may offend some people. It may be biased on certain respects but hey, I see it as, they don't come into my house or space and tell me what I should have as rules, so why should I question theirs, no matter how ridiculous it may seem to me at the time.

I won't open websites since my last virus. If you want to tell me about it, I'll answer you. I'm a feminist, but not easily offended. I grew up with guys.

Nothing, and by all the bad ratings I see on normal answers below, I will assume that whoever is doing this has some serious issues with freedom of opinion.

You defined women as shallow. Go figure.

Why not re-read the post, inserting "Men" or "Hero of da House" everywhere that 'women' or 'she' is implied, then tell us how you feel about being referred to in that manner?
Good luck
