Some train stations have parking available on site, some have it nearby for a fee (i.e. private parking garage). I would recommend calling the local station and asking what their arrangement is and what is available.

Personally, I prefer to take a taxi or have a friend take me. If you have concerns about the safety of your vehicle (referring to your other question), then you might park it at a nearby parking garage and take public transportation or taxi from there, making it a matter of a few blocks or a few miles rather than from your home.

I am planning a trip to Chicago via Amtrak, so i already researched this question to some degree:

You could take the train from La Plata. There is a motel and place to leave your car in La Plata, I've been told.
