Censored is an adjective which means suppressed or subject to censorship.

Censor is a verb which means to forbid the public distribution of ( a movie or a newspaper), or subject to political, religious, or moral censorship.

Censorship is the hallmark of dictatorships.

If you are discussing a specific item, like for example,
a letter, that has been censored (as the allies did during
world war II), you might be referring to a letter where
a government censor scratched lines through all of the
letter's text that revealed unwanted information, like
crucial locations.

If you are talking about a movie that has been censored,
it means that it either has been completely removed from
circulation, or that it has been edited, with the crucial parts
rephrased, recut or removed.

When you see programming that has a mark hiding
someone's face or nudity, or where the sound of a rude
or offensive word has been cut out or replaced with a
"blip," that is also censorship.

The key problem with censorship is where to draw the line. In totalitarian governments, the government draws
the line to inhibit the speech of whoever threatens the
government (and also provides propaganda against their
opponents, against which their opponents have no
recourse.) In governments run by a fanatical religious
clergy, the line is drawn according to the tenets of the
religion.

In the US, we have separated "church" and "state."
That is, we attempt to subscribe to a good that transcends
religious belief, and just adheres to justice. Therefore
we have lenient laws regarding many aspects of
censorship, because by the policy of "freedom of speech"
we allow the voice of opponents.
