midgits are cool in a very dated sort of way you have to love the car, reguard it as an expensive toy, and have a more reliable mode of transport available [this may mean a bycycle]
a well used mazda mx5 miata with 200k miles on it will still do everytrhing any mg could possibly hope to do on it's best day although without the "charm" of stuck gauges, knobs that fall off , lights that don't, heaters/defrosters that only work above 79 degrees F. and the smell of mildew and rot.
have fun - OH AND YES. I STILL HAVE MY 1975 TRIUMPH SPITFIRE

As far as MG and Triumph, lack of reliability was a major factor in their decline, plus in America, the trend was towards big, fat cars. Couple those two factors with a long recession and it killed the market for these cars.

The Lucas electrical system was notorious for not working. Therefore, you might have taillights one minute and none the next. Replacement parts became expensive or hard to find. Today, it's hard to find people to work on them. Those duel Stromberg carburetors are an art form to manage on a Triumph.

So, while they will remain a classic, they do come at a price. Don't own one as your sole means of transportation. Treat them as a summer car. To turn the heater on or off, you had to raise the hood and flip a valve.

The Triumph TR6 was probably the last great attempt at a British roadster, apart from the Jags. That car would get up and move. The technology of that car was right out of the 1940's. There was no need to improve on it.

A car dealership in Macon, Georgia, it's said, was caught falsely selling Mustangs. They had a new Mustang body on a Triumph TR6 frame and the handling was better than anything Ford could put out at the time. Then the customer ordered the car and it wasn't the same because it was all Ford. Then they got caught. As President Bush said, "oh, the good old days."
