There are undoubtedly many European greats like Michel Platini, Just Fontaine(scored 13 goals in ONE FIFA WC!), Beckham, Rudi Voller, Zidane, Bobby Charlton, emerging Wayne Rooney. But there is no comparison really. European soccer is all systems, formations, strategy. Team Chemistry prevails. But in South America, individual brilliance is more common like Pele, Maradona, Ronaldinho, Zico and Ronaldo who single-handedly demolish opposition. There soccer is flair. I'm not saying there are no rigid systems, but strict systems and strategies are extremely uncommon there.
European players are great in their own right as they are extremely good at making sure the systems work. The South Americans are good at their individual brand of soccer.

Did someone really asked you that??....
Where do I start. Zidane(my favorite player a.k.a the chemist), Raul, M Plattini, Cryff, Beckham, C Ronaldo, Rossi, Biaggio, Stoychkov, Van Basten, Rud Gulit, David, Figo....and on and on.
This always comes up. Some people say that South American Soccer Stars are better then European. I think that is wrong.
Sure that South America has produced some of the best players in history, but you can not compare them with European stars. They play different styles of soccer. Watch a game where Chelsea vs. Arsenal,.... its a war, its all about team work, short passes, very few dribbles, its about combinations of pass, pass, pass. This is European style. On the other hemisphere its all about the sambaaaaa.....music, dancing.......long shots, long passes, lots and lots of dribbling with the ball. The Latino stars shine when they do this cause this is the way it has been played for years. But an English guy or German has never developed that system cause its not the game plan. Team work always wins . There is no I in football.

Strange for anyone making such a statement since Soccer was introduced into the Southern Americas from the Europeans that migrated there eons ago. Every town in European countries and most efinitely Germany seems to have a soccer team made up of the locals and the teams from different towns play each other. Do remember one town team in particular for hardly ever finished a game the rivalry was so intense that fist fights breaking out with All joining in were a common occurence but All always renewed the Frienship with Camraderie in the local Gasthaus.Heres a few, although there are many Euroean Fussball Stars-Jurgen Klinsmann-German,Joop Stam-Holland,Franz Bechenbauer-Germany,Steven Gerard, David Beckmann-England: Bechenbauer is referred to affectiontely as The Kaiser because of his dominance in the games and hes not just a referrig to a American expression "a Jock'but also a man of faith in God who took it upon himself to meet with Pope Benedikt and because of it was inspired to be more active in his faith. He's also considered the "Father of the Sweeper Position".Another great German Soccer Player is Jurgen Klinsmann was a premier striker on all teams he played, referred to as the Golden(blond hair)

South american football cant be compared to europeans. The only reason brazil or argentina didnt win the world cup was because brazil's squad was so damn old and argentina's was ridiculously young. Also the 2 most disputed best players of all time come from s. america. For a majority of euro clubs the influential players are south american. No one is saying no great players come from europe, its just that South America has had better and more stars
