Sample:

Write 456 in expanded form.

Think of place value.

6 is in the ones place.

5 is in the tens place.

4 is in the hundreds place.

How many hundreds?...4

How many tens?....5

How many ones?....6

456 = 400 + 50 + 6

400 + 50 + 6 can be broken down even further this way:

100 + 100 + 100 + 100 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 456

Expanded with respect to what? Place value?

1234 = 1(10^3) + 2(10²) + 3(10) + 4(1)

Coefficient is the digit, the part in () that multiplies it is its place value as a power of 10.

You might need to ask a more specific question.

Hi,

42,387 in expanded form is:

40,000 + 2,000 + 300 + 80 + 7.

It just splits the number up by what each digit represents!

I hope that helps.

numbers in their expanded form are given in place value form.

256 in expanded form = two hundred +fifty+six

22,561 = twenty thousand + two thousand + five hundred + sixty + one

2,345,651 = two million + three hundred thousand + forty thousand + five thousand + six hundred + fifty + one
