Wrong sense of the word.

Free not in the sense of gratis living, but free as unshackled to the whims of a tyrant king, etc. Historically americans have enjoyed more rights than any country in the world, although constantly under assault by one group or another.

It costs so much to live here because of taxes, insurance and money lending.

It depends where you live.... I bought a big house for cheap.... some states the cost of living is very high.
